Cold Weather Tips!

With the brutally cold temps coming, there are important steps you should take in your home to try and avoid frozen pipes and furnace failures! Thanks for sharing these great tips Home Warranty of America!

  • KEEP THE TEMPERATURES IN YOUR HOUSE UP AND MAKE SURE YOUR HEAT IS WORKING PROPERLY.
  • CHANGE YOUR FURNACE FILTER. MAKE SURE IT IS CLEAN
  • MAKE SURE THERE IS NOTHING BLOCKING THE HEAT FLOW IN YOUR HOME.
  • KEEP THE CABINET DOORS UNDER YOUR SINK IN THE KITCHEN AND BATHROOMS OPEN.
  • SEAL WINDOWS AND DOORS. CAULK AROUND WINDOWS AND INSTALL WEATHER STRIPPING AROUND DOORS AS NEEDED TO TRAP HEAT IN YOUR HOME.
  • MAKE SURE YOUR FIREPLACE IS CLEAN AND READY TO USE.
  • REVERSE THE DIRECTION OF YOUR CEILING FANS. EVERYBODY THINKS OF USING FANS IN THE SUMMER, BUT THEY CAN HELP YOU STAY WARM IN THE WINTER TOO. SET THE BLADES TO TURN CLOCKWISE TO CIRCULATE WARM AIR FROM THE CEILING DOWN INTO THE ROOM.

KNOW WHERE YOUR WATER SHUTOFF VALVES IS SO THAT YOU CAN TURN OFF WATER IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. TYPICALLY LOCATED IN THE BASEMENT OR BURIED NEAR THE ROAD.
